Area Sections Birgunj (Birganj)

Birgunj (Birganj) Quite a place. Lived there for a couple years while I was a Peace Corps volunteer. Anyhow, you may pass through this city and Raxual on the Indian side of the border if you're passing between Nepal and India. If you have to stay a night, stay in Birganj. The best hotel in Birganj is the Hotel Vishuwa. Rooms are about US$50 and the place has a nice pool, good restaurant and is quite safe. Did I mention AC? It's just north of the bus park. A big, green building you can't miss. Two other options. A 7 minute rickshaw ride on the main street north of Raxual you'll find an area of hotels, airline offices, money cambios, and travel agencies. I suggest the Hotel Kailash (as cheap as Nepali Rs. 500 a night), which across from the Cosmic Air office (ask). There's also the Hotel Makalu (starts at maybe NRs. 600 a night) next to a big Shiva temple and the Skyline Air office. In this area, there are many internet cafes. Usually NRs. 30 for an hour. Speed is OK. The road running east-west between the buspark on the Ghanthaghar (clock tower) has a couple good hotels that are a little pricer than the Kailash or Makalu. First is Heera Plaza, which has a nice restaurant. Maybe US$40 for a room. And just a little farther east on the north-side of the road is Kumu Palace, nicer and maybe US$50 for a room. My suggestion, if you want a nice hotel with some nice food and a dip in a nice pool, go the Vishuwa. If you want cheap, go the Kailash. All the best.
