UttaranchalThough currently Uttaranchal is mostly free of pollution and noise that affects most of the India elsewhere, it is possible that it would not be the same. If something is not done proactively soon by the state government to reduce the effects of traffic pollution on climate and general well being of the people, Uttaranchal may soon find it self joining the ranks of such polluted places as found in Indian plains. State governemt does not seem to be taking any steps to introduce CNG (compressed natural gas) as the only fuel allowed on commercial vehicles and I was told by natives that Vikrams (a cheap version of modern taxi that can take up to 6 to 8 passengers) are causing major traffic pollution in the capital of Uttaranchal in Dehradun. Only thing that is saving Uttaranchal from traffic and pollution mess today is very little industrial developemnt and not the proactive regulation for cleaner fuels or environmental regulations by state government. Road quality in Uttaranchal and UP is barely okay.
