Tapola There are several options for getting at Tapola from Mahabaleshwar. The most suitable and economical way is to visit this place by ST Bus. You can also hire a private taxi or a minibus. In the off season, you can get a local ST Bus which leaves from Mahabaleshwar at 9 am and reaches Tapola around the clock of ten. The ticket fare will be only something about 11 Rs. In the touristy season, you'll have to catch the Tapola Darshan bus, also run by the St, that will be more expensive, namely, 48Rs. Half a day can be easily spend at Lake Tapola and the afternoon buses leave at 1.45 and 4.30pm. If you miss the bus, you can order a local Taxi (they're prepared) which will cost you about 12-14 Rs a person. Sometimes this is also a more comfortable solution. There are some nice restaurants around the lake where you can have a tasty meal and as far as we know, there are still no places nearby the lake (or in its direct vicinity) where you can spend the night. However, they are planning to build hotels.
