Tapola Tapola, located 30 kms from Mahabaleshwar, is an excellent picnic spot (and once again also a popular site for shooting films), not in the least because of the enormous lake. Both the river Solsi and Koyna debouch into the lake. You can rent anything that moves on water for a fixed rate at the Shivsagar boat club. However, these vehicles might disturben the spot's peaceful character. For a water scooter, you are charged 40Rs for a short and 80 Rs for a long round. You can hire a motorboat (200Rs) or a speedboat (220Rs) that will take you to the Island Point. The trip lasts about 45 minutes and can't be made during the Monsoon period. In this period, the water in the lake rises to such a level that the whole island is flooded and you'll searching in vain for the island itself.
