Sichuan Province Sichuan province is located in the centre of China between Tibet, Shanxi Province and Xian. The Yangtze river goes right through the heart of the province. A boat trip from Chonqing on the river is highly recommended. The scenery is incredible: sheer cliffs rising up 1000 meters on both sides. Both the capital Chengdu and Chongqing are well worth a visit. For Chengdu alone you need at least three days to see the sights and two more days to make excursions to Baoxing, Zhong Shan Jiuzhaigou or Leshan. Chonqing is located between the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. It is a crowded and industrial city but there are anough sights to remind you it is over 3000 years old. Excursions can be made to Dazu with its excellent Buddha scupltures and Fengdu. with its restored 7-th century city. In Hechuan some 100 km north of Chongqing you find Diaoyu castle. The mongolian king Mongke was killed here in 1259. His death made the Mongol troops who were almost in Europe turn back to choose a new king - and Europe was saved from a possibly devastating invasion.
