Nemrut Dagi

Nemrut Dagi

South of Malatya, pretty much in the middle of nowhere is Nemrut Dagi (Mount Nimrod). On the summit of this mountain is a 2000 year old memorial sanctuary for an old Commagene king. Here you can wonder around the mountain which seems made up of millions and millions of loose lying little stones and gaze at the statues of gods and kings. Many hotels in the area offer trips to this site and most of them advertise for a either sunset or sunrise combined with sightseeing between roman ruins in the area. A nice day of waking up very early, freezing at the mountain (keep in mind the mountain is realy cold in the mornings and evenings), and strolling along all the roman leftovers didn't cost me more than 16 dollars. Ofcourse this incluided transportation and is less or comparable to what you would spend on taxi's.
