Learning Turkish as a "yabanci" [foreigner] is not really easy, but the people - as everywhere - really appreciate if you make an effort. If you want to learn basic words and sentences buy a Turkish language course which is available in every book shop selling English language books. There are quite a few on the Istiklal Caddesi between Tünel and Taksim.

Turkish is a very complicated language to learn with some special letters in the alphabet. Pronunciation is not the problem, but grammar is. To master a few words is not difficult however and will be greatly appreciated by the locals: you will find out, it is really rewarding! Here are some essential words.
