Irbid Irbid have 2 big and famous universities which are modern and grant a high level education. A visit to these univeristy is suggested. 1- Yarmouk University During the last quarter of the past century, Jordan has achieved qualitative jumps in all fields of life, Particularly in the educational sector, in particular. When Jordan had one university, the establishment of Yarmouk University came to existence. The Royal Decree for establishing the university was issued in 1975, and the university started working in the academic year 1976-77 to fulfill the community development demands and needs and to provide opportunities for university education for as much as possible of the growing numbers of General Secondary School graduates. In addition to that, the University was found to organize holding programs of varied courses to contribute in the integration and development of the community sectors, and in the development and advancement of the human thinking through acquiring the necessary knowledge and employing it to serve local and regional development. The fields that the University teaches are varied and comprehensive as it has nine faculties: Faculty of Arts which includes department of: Arabic Language and literature, English Language and Literature, Political Sciences, Sociology, Journalism, History, Modern Languages, Geography, and Semitic and Oriental Languages. Faculty of Sciences includes departments of: Physics, chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, statistics, Compute Sciences, and Earth Sciences. The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which includes departments of: Economics, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Management, Accounting and Marketing. The Faculty of Education includes departments of: Education (post-graduate studies) curricula and Teaching, Educational Psychology, Administration and fundamentals of Education, in addition to two programs of qualifying teachers and Practical education. Al Hajawi faculty of Technological Engineering includes Departments of Communication Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer and Control Engineering Electric Machines, Power Engineering. The Faculty of Shari'a and Islamic Studies includes departments of Fundamentals of Religion, Jurisprudence its fundamental, Islamic Economics and Banking and Islamic Studies. TheFaculty of Physical Education includes Sport Sciences, Training, and Sport Games. Finally the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Fine Arts have postgraduates Program's for Master and Doctoral Degrees. Admission to Yarmouk University comes through competition. Any student who passes the General Secondary Certificate with minimum average of 65% has the right to apply for the Higher Committee for Co-ordination Admission to Jordanian universities where the selection of students is done on the basis of the average and students desires. With regard to the number of students in Yarmouk University, in the year 2000 the number has reached more than twenty-two thousands. The university lies on the western side of Houran fields in the center of Irbid Governorate, which is about 80 Kilometers north Amman the capital. It is a member in the Union of Arab universities, World Union and the International Board of world Union. The Royal Decree for its establishment was issued on 1/9/1986 so that it can assume the responsibility of university education, graduating scientific qualified and trained cadres in the specialized scientific and technological fields, taking into consideration, the needs of the local Jordanian community for coping with the new scientific developments in the light of the recent renovations in it and in the Arab society at large. In accordance with these aims, the University has under took to be a distinguished university in the fields of research, teaching and community service. The university, through intensive efforts and dedication, has been able to take wide steps in a short time following its existence to provide Jordan and the whole Arab World with thousand of young people it embraced and provided with all means of success to be able to go through all walks of life armed with confidence, knowledge and strong will so as to play their roles in building their countries. The University includes ten faculties. The Faculty of Engineering includes Departments of Civil, Electric, Mechanic, Agricultural, Biomedical and Industrial Engineering. The Faculty of Computer Technology and Information includes Computer Engineering and the Internet, computer Science and Information Systems. Also, There are faculties of Medicines, Applied Medical Sciences and Dentistry; Pharmacy, Sciences and Arts; and Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. The University grants master and doctoral degrees in some specialties. Admission to the University comes through competition where those who passed the General Secondary Examination with a minimum a verge of 65% can apply for the University. Those students apply through the Higher Committee of University Admissions where selection is done in respect of the average and students choice. The number of graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at the University in the year 2001 totaled 13,389. More than 600 Academic teaching staff members carry out the instruction duties for these programs, all of whom hold the high Academic degrees from the most competitive western universities in U.S.A., Canada, and England in fields relevant to these programs.
