Tunis Tunis is a big city that has managed not to lose too much of its charm. The inner city is still the Casbah with its small winding streets that work their way up to the top of the hill where the Big Mosque and the old palace of the Bey of Tunis stand. In the souqs the shopkeepers will try to get you into their souvenir shops with perseverence. The real tourist shops do not have very interesting stuff, but you can get caSsettes with Arabic Music, nice T-shirts and herbs & spices at very reasonable prices. The French city is not bad either. Big tree-lined avenues with cafes, terraces and nice shops give you a mediterranean feeling. Within easy reach you find the ruins of Carthage, a must see. Another highlight is the Bardo Museum.
