Bukoba Air The airport is on Aerodrome Road along the lake. Precision Air (travel agent on Mosque Street near the bus stand), Eagle Air (travel agent in the Cyber Centre) and Air Tanzania run services to Mwanza daily (about 40,000/=), where you can get a connection to Dar, Kampala, Nairobi, etc. You can also order a ticket from Rose in the VSO office or Fourways Travel in Mwanza (tel. 2502273 or 2502630, fourways.mza@raha.com). A return ticket to Dar costs about 230,000/=. Boat Unless you can afford a flight, the best way to Mwanza is by boat. The ferry MV Victoria leaves Bukoba on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at about 9 to 10 pm (after the horn sounds twice) and arrives in Mwanza the next morning around 8 am. It leaves Mwanza on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at about 9 pm and arrives in Bukoba the next morning around 8 am. First class is 13000/=, two per cabin. Second class is 10700/=, six per cabin, or 8100 sitting (no bed). Third class is 7600 and very crowded so not recommended. Book tickets in advance (at the port) before first and second class tickets are sold out. It might be a good idea to call someone in Mwanza or Bukoba to book the return tickets in advance and then pay for them yourself upon arrival. Train Trains do not come to Bukoba, but there are trains from Mwanza to Dar es salaam (which takes about two full days) or Kigoma via Tabora. First or second class is recommended; book well in advance. Bus The bus stand is in the centre of town. Falcon Coach runs to Kampala Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and returns to Bukoba Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (5 to 7 hours, 10,000/=). Book tickets in advance at the nearby Falcon/Tawfiq office (Box 1586, 2221683); in Kampala the Falcon office is near the Nakivubo Guest House and the bus and taxi stands (mobile 077576196). Other buses go to Kigoma, Kasulu and Kibondo. The trips to Bujumbura and Kigali are each about 12 hours.
