Taza In earlier days controlling Taza meant controlling the road from Fez to Tlemcen; it was the key to controlling the whole east of Morocco. Since the arrival of the French, first in Tlemcen (Algeria) and later in the west of Morocco, the whole eastern region dwindled, while the west flourished. Taza lost its importance. What remains is a pleasant market town, with some monuments, although the religious once are not accesible for non-muslims. Taza is also a good starting point for exploration of the Djebel Tazzeka, with its great mountain views.
